This little engraving was made on a lemonwood block
Size: 180mm x 240mm
It sets out to capture the joy of leaping without the need to kill.
Gwenda Morgan (1 February 1908 – 1991) was a British wood engraver and this little piece is a reduced study taken from her larger work Midwinter. On the left is the woodblock and the tiny print is on the right. I wanted to better understand how marks could be made in different ways to reveal trees and snow covered buildings.
This woodblock was made to be the front cover illustration for an anthology of poetry by the same name
A wood engraving portrait. This is actually the lemonwood block itself
Still needs a little work but almost there
